IMG_0008On Saturday, 6th June the Hare and Hounds in East Sheen hosted a fundraising event for our club’s first ever international tour. The main event was a five-round pub quiz that tested 10 teams through 5 different rounds that covered General Knowledge, History, Geography, TV & Film, as well as guestimator and picture rounds. After two hours of intense brain-racking, heated debating, and unashamed guesswork, the results were decided.

4th Place: Alpaca Mob

= 2nd Place: The Bouncers and Your Team

1st Place: The Nutty Geezers

While the quiz results were being verified, two of our Italy tour participants drew the raffle tickets. Local businesses had thrown their support behind the event as prizes worth hundreds of pounds were on offer for the lucky winners to select. Prizes included:IMG_0009

IMG_0015Knights Coach and quizmaster James Merchant said of the evening “It was incredible to see the support from both our club community and the wider community as a whole. These people clearly understand the value of such an experience for our young players from a playing perspective but also for the children’s personal development.”

This July, Richmond Knights will be taking 32 players from 4 teams (under-12 Boys, under-13 Boys, under-13 Girls and under-14 Boys) to the Eurocamp Basketball training centre and tournament in Cesenatico, Italy.

In total, the evening raised £503.10 towards the cost of this tour, which will directly help the participants in two ways. Primarily, it will be used to reduce the overall cost of the tour for each participant. The remaining amount will be added to our bursary fund that has been set up to provide additional financial assistance for any families that require it. It is very important to Richmond Knights that such opportunities are available to any player that wishes to benefit from them, and this event has improved our ability to do this.

Vicki Curtis, General Manager of the Hare and Hounds, stated: “We are really pleased to have had the opportunity to host Saturdays’ event at the Hare and Hounds and to hear that over £500 was raised towards helping the Richmond Knights juniors Italy tour! Being part of the local community is incredibly important to us and so being able to support a local club that provides such important and enriching experiences for the area’s children is fantastic.”

Richmond Knights would like to thank the Hare & Hounds and everyone who donated prizes and supported this event, especially Amanda who was heavily involved behind the scenes, and well done to all the teams who took part!
